LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A teaching assistant and basketball coach at a Massachusetts middle school has been acquitted of charges that threw a Rubik's Cube at a student.
A judge Wednesday said there was no evidence that Matthew Fraser intentionally threw the Rubik's Cube at the 14-year-old boy and entered a not guilty verdict to a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
The Sun (http://bit.ly/2b3OYno ) reports that witnesses testified that the paraprofessional at Lowell's Sullivan Middle School argued with the student in January the day after he felt the teen's unsportsmanlike behavior cost the school a basketball game.
Witnesses say Fraser "spiked" the puzzle into the floor, but the student was already far down the hallway and it did not hit him.
Fraser's attorney says his client wants to get back to work.
