NEW YORK (AP) — Members of the Bangladeshi Muslim community in New York City are asking police to treat the killings of an imam and his friend as a hate crime. They held a rally at the site where the men were fatally shot while walking home from a mosque in Queens today. Police haven't determined a motive and say there's no indication the men were targeted because of their faith. No suspects are in custody.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Police say a Milwaukee officer has shot and killed an armed man during a foot chase. A police spokesman says officers stopped a car with two people inside today. He says the pair got out of the car and ran and that the officers chased them. He says one of the two fleeing people was a 23-year-old man who was armed with a handgun and was shot by an officer during the pursuit. Police say the gun was stolen.

AMITE, La. (AP) — People in parts of Louisiana are really suffering after heavy rains caused rivers to overflow and flood surrounding areas. More than 1,000 people have been rescued. Authorities in Louisiana say three people have died. A woman's body was recovered from a river today. The. Coast Guard says it rescued five people from flood waters in the Baton Rouge area alone today. Police are now going car to car to rescue people stranded on an Interstate.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Forecasters say Southern California is heading into a few days of very hot weather. The National Weather Service says a high-pressure system will contribute to soaring temperatures through Wednesday. That means fire danger and bad air. Downtown Los Angeles could see highs in the 90s, while the San Fernando Valley, Antelope Valley and other areas could reach 108 degrees. The hottest days will be Sunday and Monday.

PASO ROBLES, Calif. (AP) — A fast-moving wildfire in central California has led to an evacuation order in a lakeside community but it's unknown how many residents have left their homes. The blaze broke out shortly after 4 p.m. today in the rolling hills south of Lake Nacimiento, about 230 miles northwest of Los Angeles. It quickly grew to at least 350 acres
