WELLS, Nev. (AP) — Three suspects traveling from California have been jailed in Elko County after an alleged altercation with a state trooper during a stop for speeding on Interstate 80.

Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Alex Perez told the Elko Daily Free Press (http://tinyurl.com/juft662) a trooper pulled a minivan over near Wells for speeding in a construction zone Thursday afternoon.

He says two female passengers became hostile and started screaming at the trooper, who decided to arrest the driver after he refused to sign a citation.

When the trooper attempted to handcuff the suspect, Perez says the women jumped out of the vehicle and began to assault him.

The trooper struggled with all three on the ground before a motorist stopped to help. All three were taken into custody on charges of obstructing and resisting arrest. The women also face battery charges.
