RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — There's now another chance for people in North Carolina's second largest county to run for school board this fall after a judge this week ordered elections be held under district boundaries first approved in 2011.
A special candidate filing period for all nine Wake school board seats began Thursday and continues until next Wednesday.
Candidates already were in place based on new lines approved by the Republican-led General Assembly and being implemented this year. But a federal appeals court last month ruled boundaries for the school board and the county commission— which are identical — were unconstitutional.
Election officials didn't order a new filing period for the county commission. Three commission seats remain up for election in November with previously filed candidates, while two regional seats were struck down.
