STANLEY, Idaho (AP) — Fire officials say a wildfire burning near Stanley Lake has shut down area campgrounds and roads.

The Idaho Statesman (http://bit.ly/2ax8HLK) reports that firefighters closed State Highway 21 about eight miles north of Stanley after flames jumped the road on Saturday. However, the road was reopened by Sunday.

Julie Thomas, spokeswoman for the Sawtooth National Forest, says firefighters are hopeful the flames burning near Stanley Lake will be extinguished quickly and not turn into a blaze similar to the 93 square mile blaze burning in mountainous central Idaho — which is also the state's largest wildfire of the season.

While more than 1,600 firefighters are battling the fire near Lowman, officials have reduced the evacuation notice to nearby residents to allow them to remain in their homes.
