MASSENA, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a trooper and a Canadian motorist are being treated for injuries suffered when their vehicles collided at a northern New York intersection.

They say 31-year-old Trooper Joshua Foster was traveling west on state Route 37 in the St. Lawrence county village of Massena around 3 a.m. Monday to assist U.S. Border Patrol on a call.

Troopers say Foster drove into the intersection with his emergency light's flashing and went through a red light. Police say a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Carly Benedict of Ontario drove into entered the intersection and hit Foster's cruiser.

Troopers say Foster and Benedict are being treated at Massena Memorial Hospital for injuries that aren't life-threatening injuries.

The collision is under investigation.
