MUNICH (AP) — More is known now about the 18-year-old German-Iranian man who shot and killed nine people in Munich including that he had been under psychiatric car and treated for depression. Police say the shooting appears to have been a classic rampage, not terrorism. Officials say the man who was born and raised in Munich was armed with a 9mm Glock pistol and had 300 rounds of ammunition.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The reviews are mostly good from delegates to the Democratic National Convention reacting to the selection of Virginia Sen. Time Kaine as Hillary Clinton's running mate. There's some grumbling from Bernie Sanders supporters who wanted a more progressive choice. The convention starts Monday. Clinton and Kaine campaign together in Florida today.
UNDATED (AP) — Forecasters say 47 of the lower 48 states are hot and getting hotter this weekend and that it's unusual for that kind of heat to linger so long in so many places. If there's a cool spot, it's Washington state, the only place where it wasn't 90 degrees or more somewhere. Forecasters also say the three-month temperature forecast is warmer than normal in most of the country.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The sheriff of East Baton Rouge Parish says deputy Brad Garafola, one of three law enforcement officers shot and killed by a lone gunman in an ambush, returned fire to the very end. A funeral is planned for him today, a day after hundreds of people turned out for a funeral service for Baton Rouge police Officer Matthew Gerald. The third officer's funeral is Monday.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia's highest court has struck down Gov. Terry McAuliffe's executive order restoring voting rights to more than 206,000 felons. In a 4-3 decision, the Supreme Court of Virginia says McAuliffe overstepped his clemency powers. More than 11,000 felons have registered to vote under the action. The court ordered the state to cancel those registrations. The governor has said he'll restore the rights one-y-one if he has to.
