TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Police in Tulsa have released the names of an officer who fatally shot a man who threw a screwdriver at him and of the man who was killed.

Police said Monday that Officer Stephen Blaylock shot 43-year-old Michael Ray Ramsey Jr. Sunday night after trying unsuccessfully to subdue him with a Taser.

Police say Blaylock was responding to a report of a homeowner being threatened by a man with a knife when he confronted Ramsey and that Ramsey ignored orders to drop the knives. Police say Blaylock then opened fire after the stun gun failed to subdue Ramsey and Ramsey threw a screwdriver at the officer.

Police initially reported that Ramsey had thrown a knife at the officer.

Blaylock is now on paid leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
