LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a train just northeast of Las Vegas.

Union Pacific Railroad's western region spokesman, Justin Jacobs, says the incident happened around 6 a.m. Saturday.

The train struck the woman along the Caliente Subdivision.

According to Jacbos, investigators are looking into how the woman ended up on the train tracks.

Officials say pedestrians should not be anywhere on the tracks other than designated areas.

Jacobs says the engineer and conductor of that train have been put in touch with counselors.
