SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Layton mother and grandmother are accused of faking a baby's illness in order to get attention.

KSL-TV of Salt Lake City reports (http://bit.ly/29QVCjC) that 25-year-old Jessica Gutierrez and her mother, 57-year-old Rebecca Day, were booked Thursday on a felony child abuse charge.

According to charging documents, the two falsely reported several times that Gutierrez's son had a fever and vomited after feedings.

The baby was born in May 2015.

Authorities say Gutierrez took him to the hospital less than two months later and he underwent invasive procedures for weeks.

During a return visit in August 2015, hospital surveillance video showed Gutierrez putting formula on a washrag as proof the infant had vomited.

It was not clear if the women had attorneys.

The boy is in foster care.
