ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — A sheriff says two bailiffs and a gunman are dead following a shooting at a southwestern Michigan courthouse. The Berrien County sheriff tells WSBT-TV that a deputy sheriff was also shot but is in stable condition. The shooting happened at the Berrien County courthouse in St. Joseph. The county borders Indiana.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (AP) — Louisiana's attorney general says he won't have access to the federal investigation on the Alton Sterling fatal police shooting until it's completed and a decision has been made on potential federal charges. The statement came minutes after the district attorney in the parish were Sterling died announced he was recusing himself from the case. The Department of Justice has opened a federal civil rights investigation into Sterling's death, but a decision on whether to pursue charges like murder, negligent homicide or assault would generally come from the state. The shooting, caught on video, has sparked protests.

BALTIMORE (AP) — A judge has dropped an assault charged against a Baltimore police officer charged in the death of a black man injured in a police transport van. Lt. Brian Rice is the highest-ranking officer charged in the 2015 death of Freddie Gray. He still faces charges of manslaughter, reckless endangerment and misconduct.

NEW YORK (AP) — The dying words of a black man placed in a white police officer's chokehold are now the lyrics of a new song being released for the second anniversary of his death. The track "I Can't Breathe" features the voices of Eric Garner's siblings. It's streaming on SoundCloud and can be purchased on iTunes.

NEW YORK (AP) — The S&P has closed at a record high, beating the mark it set last year in May. The index added 7 points to 2,137. The Dow gained 80 points to 18,226 -- just shy of its own record set last year. And the Nasdaq rose 31 points to 4,988. The gains came after strong performances by markets overseas.
