DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Officials say the retaking of a restaurant in Bangladesh killed 20 hostages being held by Islamic State group extremists. Police stormed the upscale Dhaka restaurant killing at least six attackers and rescuing 13 hostages. The Islamic State group claims responsibility, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadi activity online.
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Authorities have arrested a man they say killed five people and injured at least 20 others early today when he opened fire with an automatic weapon in a cafe in northern Serbia 30 miles northwest of Belgrade. A police statement says the suspect first killed his wife and another woman before randomly shooting at other occupants of the cafe.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has left its law controversial law dealing with LGBT rights largely intact after several days of closed-door meetings. None of the changes made will enhance workplace protections on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, nor does it affect other provisions decried by gay rights advocates, business leaders and other high-profile critics.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Even more money will be up for grabs in Tuesday's Mega Millions lottery drawing. No jackpot winner was drawn for Friday's $415 million jackpot. Tuesday night's jackpot will be worth an estimated $449 million. The winning numbers drawn Friday night were 20-41-42- 45-49, with a Mega Ball of 14.
BEIJING (AP) — An overnight sleeper bus in northern China fell off an expressway into a ditch after a tire burst, killing 26 people. The government in the port city of Tianjin says the bus with sleeping berths and carrying 30 people plunged off the road last night about 50 miles from Beijing. The official Xinhua News Agency reported that the four others on board were found alive and hospitalized.
