DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Security forces in the capital of Bangladesh have ended a terrorist siege at a restaurant in Dhaka (DAH'-kah) that lasted 10 hours. Two big explosions were heard Saturday morning in the restaurant, where heavily-armed extremists were holding about 35 people hostage. A police official says five bodies were seen. An official in Japan says 12 people were rescued. In the initial gunbattle on Friday night, two police officers were killed and about two dozen people were wounded, some gravely. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.

Pentagon spokesman says the strike killed Basim Muhammad Ahmad Sultan al-Bajari and a lower level commander. Al-Bajari was a former member of al-Qaida who oversaw the Islamic State's fight in June 2014 to capture the northern city of Mosul.

Their mother has been taken into custody.
