CAIRO (AP) — Egyptian investigators says the cockpit voice recorder of the doomed EgyptAir plane has been found and pulled out of the Mediterranean Sea. They say the so-called black box has been damaged but that the vessel searching for the wreckage has managed to safely recover what they call the "memory unit which is the most important in the recorder." The announcement came a day after the investigation committee said that a vessel that had been contracted by the government to join the search for the plane had spotted and obtained images from the wreckage.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A visitation has been held for one of the victims of the massacre at a gay Orlando nightclub, beginning the long procession of rainbow-hued sendoffs. Last night, the casket for Javier Jorge-Reyes was taken inside a funeral home. Outside, a crowd of drag queens, motorcyclists and others came to pay their respects. One man who was dressed in a nun's habit said, "We're just here to spread love and joy and try to put an end to all the hate."

CHICAGO (AP) — The coordinator for Chicago's upcoming gay pride parade says organizers will hire dozens more off-duty police officers than they did last year after city officials asked them to beef up security in the wake of the massacre at a gay nightclub in Florida. In New York, meanwhile, the police commissioner says there have been a number of threats made against gay bars and nightclubs in the city, but none appear to be credible.

ATLANTA (AP) — The trial of a Georgia man accused of intentionally leaving his toddler son in a hot SUV to die will be held in the coastal city of Brunswick starting Sept. 12. Cobb County officials announced the details this morning. A judge ruled last month that three weeks of jury selection made it clear Justin Harris' trial should move away from the suburban Atlanta county where his 22-month-old son Cooper died. Harris faces charges including murder.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening lower as the market's losses continue for the sixth day in a row. Energy companies are skidding as the price of oil continues to fall. Marathon Oil and Halliburton both lost about 2 percent. Macy's rose 2 percent after it reached a tentative deal with workers at its New York store, avoiding a strike.
