NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks fell at the opening as indexes in Europe and Asia slumped. Banks are taking the biggest losses as bond yields drop further, pushing long-term interest rates lower. Citigroup and Bank of America were both down 2 percent. Energy companies were falling with oil prices.

NEW YORK (AP) — At the opening bell, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 136 points, or 0.8 percent, to 17,847. The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 19 points, or 0.9 percent, to 2,097. The Nasdaq composite index declined 54 points, or 1.1 percent, to 4,904.

DETROIT (AP) — Electric car maker Tesla Motors is denying allegations that there are safety problems with its vehicle suspensions. The Palo Alto, California, company says one of its cars had an abnormal amount of rust on a suspension part, a problem it hasn't seen in any other car.

NEW YORK (AP) — DuPont and Dow Chemical say they will hold separate shareholder meetings on July 20 to vote on their merger. DuPont's meeting will take place at its Delaware headquarters, and Dow Chemical's meeting will be at its Midland, Michigan, offices. The two agriculture and chemical companies announced their plan to merge in December.

CALVERTON, N.Y. (AP) — A solar-powered aircraft that can be flown with or without a human on board is being unveiled at a New York site that once made fighter jets for the military. Luminati Aerospace is bringing out its prototype today at the former Calverton defense plant on Long Island, New York. A person will be inside the high-tech aircraft during the demonstration.
