BIG TIMBER, Mont. (AP) — A former assistant football coach at Sweet Grass County High School in Big Timber has received a deferred sentence for having sex with a teenage student.
The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1U3n53B ) that 25-year-old Mitchell Buerkle was given a six-year deferred sentence at a hearing in Sweet Grass County District Court on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to felony sexual intercourse without consent in February.
The deferred sentence, which follows the recommendation of a plea agreement, means the conviction could be removed from Buerkle's record if he follows the conditions of his sentence, which includes a $4,000 fine and designation as a sex offender.
Buerkle was charged in March 2015 after the girl told investigators that in 2014, when she was 15, she met Buerkle after a football game to have sex.
