STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — Northern California deputies are investigating the death of a man mauled by a pit bull over the weekend.
CBS13 in Sacramento reports Monday (http://cbsloc.al/1ZszAUM) that 43-year-old Earl Stephens Jr. died after getting into an argument with the dog's owner Saturday in Stockton, California.
San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies arrived to find the aggressive dog on the loose and Stephens bleeding from numerous bites. They had to shoot and kill the dog to get to the victim.
Stephens was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he died of his injuries.
Investigators tell the news station that they expect an autopsy on the victim to determine an official cause of death.
It's not clear if Stephens died from the bites or if he had a previous medical condition.
