CASTLETON, Vt. (AP) — Castleton University has announced plans to invest $3.6 million renovating its science facilities as part of the school's STEM Improvement Project.
Vermont Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/22y5HEt ) school officials say the improvements to the Jeffords Science Center aim to make the school's science, technology, engineering and mathematics students competitive.
Spokesman Jeff Weld says many of the classrooms and labs in the center haven't been updated since the 1970s and 1980s.
Weld says the state has pledged $1 million toward the effort. The money will come from Vermont's capital investment funds. Half will be given now and half will be given when matching funds are raised.
He says the university plans to raise the additional $2.6 million with grants and private donations.
A timeline for construction hasn't been set.
