CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The College of Charleston has purchased a more-than 200-year-old inn in Charleston's historic district.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/1Wcgp3t ) the school recently paid $3.2 million for the 10-room King George IV Inn which dates to about 1790.

College spokesman Mike Robertson says the purchase gives the college a central place to house campus guests, such as speakers and others. It will also free up space on campus that is now used for guest housing.

Robertson says acquiring the new inn will also give students in the college's hospitality and tourism programs a chance to apply what they are learning.
