WOODRUFF, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina mother faces a child neglect charge after her autistic son was found wandering door-to-door through their neighborhood.

Multiple media organizations report that 32-year-old Brandy Rae Tucker of Woodruff was charged after her nonverbal, 8-year-old was found by neighbors last week.

A neighbor flagged down a Woodruff police officer to report he heard a noise on his porch and found the boy, who was unable to answer questions about where he lived and who his parents were.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies say the boy had a wound on his right foot and may have suffered from a sinus infection.

A police report states that his home was littered with trash, soiled baby diapers and the feces of several dogs and cats inside the home without food or water.
