CAIRO (AP) — Investigators are trying to figure out what caused an EgyptAir jetliner bound from Paris to Cairo to crash in the Mediterranean early today with 66 people aboard. No sign of survivors. Egypt's aviation minister is raising the possibility of a terrorist attack. EgyptAir Flight 804, an Airbus A320, went down about halfway between the Greek island of Crete and Egypt's northern coastline.
CAIRO (AP) — The Greek defense minister says the EgyptAir plane spun all the way around and suddenly lost altitude just before vanishing from radar screens around 2:45 a.m. Egyptian time. He says the aircraft was at an altitude of 37,000 feet, made a 90-degree left turn, then a full 360-degree turn toward the right, dropping from 38,000 to 15,000 feet. It was lost at about 10,000 feet.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Securities And Exchange Commission is filing a complaint against golfer Phil Mickelson related to insider trading. The SEC says a gambler relayed some tips from the former director of Dean Foods to Mickelson, and that the gambler urged Mickelson to trade Dean Foods stock. The SEC says Mickelson did so and made a profit of $931,000. No comment from Mickelson's representative.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A unanimous Supreme Court has ruled that a delay in imposing a prison sentence does not violate the Constitution's right to a speedy trial. The justices upheld the sentencing of a Montana defendant who waited in jail for 14 months before being sentenced on a bail-jumping charge. The court said that the right to a speedy trial "does not extend post-conviction."
NEW YORK (AP) — 2016 is shaping up to be the summer of the road trip. Cheap fuel prices have left many American families flush with extra cash, which they now plan to spend on vacations. Initial data for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the start of the travel season, is already signaling a strong summer for the tourism industry.
