GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A cruise ship has docked in Galveston, Texas, minus one of its passengers. Samantha Broberg (BROH'-berg) apparently fell overboard from the Carnival Liberty into the Gulf of Mexico early Friday. The Coast Guard says the search for the 33-year-old woman was suspended Sunday evening after crews searched for more than 20 hours.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Thunderstorms in parts of South Texas have dumped up to 6 inches of rain since midnight, and forecasters say more strong storms are coming. No injuries are reported in Corpus Christi, where emergency management officials reported high-water rescues from vehicles and low-lying areas.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has rejected Philip Morris USA's appeal of a $25 million punitive damages award to the family of a deceased smoker in Oregon. The justices are leaving in place a state appeals court ruling that likened the cigarette maker's role in smoker Michelle Schwarz's death to manslaughter under Oregon law.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is passing up a free speech case right in its own front yard. Without comment, the justices rejected an appeal from a man who says he has a right to stage a protest on the court's marble plaza. Protests are confined to the public sidewalk directly in front of the plaza.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is honoring 13 law enforcement officers who risked their lives to protect others. Obama will present the Medal of Valor at a ceremony in the East Room today. The medals recognize exceptional courage to save human life in the face of personal risk.
