SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah doctor accused of giving her husband prescription drugs and alcohol for months before the combination killed him is facing manslaughter charge and abuse charges.
Prosecutors say in charges filed Friday that 63-year-old Ina Amber prescribed her husband Rustin Orr five different medications while he was drinking 750 milliliters of vodka a day mixed with Gatorade.
Police say the 54-year-old Orr died in September 2014 of a fatal mixture of booze and Librium, which is used to treat short-term alcohol addiction.
Authorities say Amber told a detective her husband was controlling and refused to get a divorce, but she was trying to taper off his liquor as she treated him off the books.
Amber's lawyer Stephen Owens says the infectious disease specialist has been serving patients for 37 years and denies the allegations.
