WASHINGTON (AP) — A man who drew a BB gun at a screening checkpoint at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center in March made his first appearance in federal court and has been ordered held in jail.
Larry Dawson appeared Wednesday in federal court in Washington and was ordered to be held pending a hearing set for Monday.
Police say that on March 28, Dawson drew what appeared to be a handgun at the visitor center. He was shot by police and hospitalized. Police say Dawson had a BB gun.
The Capitol was on lockdown for about an hour as a result of the incident.
Dawson, who is from Tennessee, faces two federal charges.
Dawson was known to police, who last October arrested him for disrupting House proceedings and yelling he was a "prophet of God."
