NEW YORK (AP) — Police say no one was injured after a shooting during a robbery attempt at St. John's University.

The New York Police Department said three suspects were taken into custody shortly after the Wednesday afternoon incident.

Police say the three entered a dorm room at Hollis Hall on the Queens campus around 1:30 p.m. and witnesses reported hearing a gunshot.

Police believe the suspects had an altercation with four men in the dorm room and that the gunshot was fired during a robbery attempt.

Police say a bullet went through a chair and struck a wall.

The three suspects — ages 17, 18 and 21 — were taken into custody a few blocks away. Charges were pending.

A college spokesman said safety is its top priority and there is no threat to students.
