INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Donald Trump is getting closer to clinching the Republican presidential nomination. After winning the Indiana primary Tuesday, rival Ted Cruz dropped out of the race, clearing Trump's path to a likely November face-off with Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. Trump still needs about 200 delegates to formally secure the nomination, but Cruz's decision to end his campaign has removed his last major obstacle.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Ted Cruz had clung to the hope that he could keep Republican president front-runner Donald Trump from reaching the 1,237 delegates needed for the nomination and push the race to a rare contested convention. But before a somber crowd in Indianapolis, Cruz told supporters, "I've said I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory; tonight I'm sorry to say it appears that path has been foreclosed." Now that Cruz has dropped out of the race, only John Kasich remains as Trump's GOP rival.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is claiming momentum after winning the Indiana primary. But he also concedes that his strategy hinges on persuading superdelegates to back him over front-runner Hillary Clinton. Superdelegates, Democratic Party insiders who can support the candidate of their choice, favor Clinton by a nearly 18-1 margin.

SHIPROCK, N.M. (AP) — A 9-year-old boy in New Mexico says he was wary of a stranger who approached him and his older sister at a school bus stop Monday, but his sister was lured into the man's van, and the boy didn't want her to go alone. Police say the man took the siblings to a desolate spot near an American Indian reservation and allegedly killed 11-year-old Ashlynne Mike, whose body was found Tuesday in Shiprock, New Mexico. Twenty-seven-year-old Tom Begaye has been charged with the abduction and death.

DETROIT (AP) — Teachers in Detroit say they'll go back to work Wednesday after receiving reassurances from the district's manager that they'll be paid. Teachers called out sick Monday and Tuesday after the district said it couldn't pay teachers in the summer if the state didn't provide more emergency funding. On Tuesday, Michigan lawmakers advanced a $500 million plan to restructure the public schools by creating a new district. Teachers say they're not happy with the plan.
