DETROIT (AP) — Michigan first lady Sue Snyder has christened a campaign involving a pink elevator in Detroit to raise funds benefiting the Susan G. Komen organization for breast cancer research.
The Detroit News (http://detne.ws/21fYRme ) reports that Snyder christened the country's 10th "Ride the Pink Elevator" campaign on Wednesday. She joined others in a bright pink construction elevator at the site of a future downtown Detroit apartment building.
Money will be raised for the initiative primarily through fundraisers and donations from employees of the company overseeing the building's rehab, as well as people who work with subcontractors and suppliers on site. The public can also contribute.
Ten pink elevators nationwide have hit nearly six figures in donations, which includes money from the Detroit project. Four projects in Michigan have raised more than $32,000.
