SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Blaze head coach Ron James announced Wednesday afternoon the re-signing of DL CHRIS JANEK (6-1, 314, Wisconsin) to a two-year contract. Janek, who has made 34 straight starts in two seasons with the Blaze, recorded 17 tackles (3.5 for loss), two sacks and a forced fumble in 2008. He had a season-high 3.5 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in the second game of the season at Cleveland. “We're excited to have a powerful and durable player like Chris Janek back in our line-up for the next two seasons,” James said. “He brings stability and size to our defense line.” In 2007, Janek tallied 10.5 tackles (four for loss), three sacks, and a fumble recovery. He had a season-best 3.0 tackles and two sacks against the New Orleans VooDoo to open the 2007 season. Janek is the third player to re-sign with the Blaze this season. OL DEVIN WYMAN (6-8, 350, Kentucky State) signed a two-year deal last week, while WR HUEY WHITTAKER (6-5, 220, South Florida) signed a three-year contract in late July.
