NEW YORK (AP) — A federal appeals court has ruled that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady must serve a four-game "Deflategate" suspension imposed by the NFL. The appeals court is overturning a lower judge and siding with the league in a battle with the players union. The decision may end the legal debate over the scandal that led to months of football fans arguing over air pressure in footballs and the reputation of one of the league's top teams.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sihk) is urging people in Indiana to vote for him, despite his agreement to stand aside in that state. His message came about 13 hours after he announced an arrangement to give rival Ted Cruz "a clear path" in next week's Indiana primary. In exchange, Cruz is to give Kasich a clear path in Oregon and New Mexico. The arrangement is designed to prevent Donald Trump from clinching the nomination. Speaking today in Philadelphia, Kasich said he never told Indiana voters that they shouldn't vote for him. He says he simply agreed not to spend "resources" in Indiana. The Ohio governor also says the stop-Trump alliance is "no big deal."
DAMASCUS (AP) — Syrian State TV is reporting that rebels have shelled two government-controlled areas in the contested city of Aleppo, killing nine people. The attacks bring to 12 the total number of people killed today in government-held areas in the deeply divided city. Violence in Aleppo and near the capital Damascus has endangered the fragile cease-fire, in effect since late February.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is calling for more discussion about bullying, in the wake of a shooting outside a high school prom. Authorities say 18-year-old Jakob Wagner shot and wounded two prom-goers outside the northern Wisconsin school with a high-powered rifle before police killed him Saturday evening. When asked today about gun control, Walker told reporters the bigger issue is how to deal with individuals like Wagner. He says he has heard news reports that Wagner was bullied.
YORKTOWN, Va. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a donations jar intended for the family of a slain Virginia State Trooper. They say Tyree Burrell was arrested Saturday, four days after authorities say a man stole the jar from a 7-Eleven convenience store near Yorktown, Virginia. The money was intended for the family of State Trooper Chad Dermyer. Dermyer was killed March 31 by a gunman at a Richmond Greyhound bus station while police were holding a counterterrorism training exercise. He is survived by his wife and two children.
