HANOVER, N.H. (AP) — About 30 employees at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine are losing their jobs as part of a reorganization aimed at addressing a multimillion-dollar deficit.
The college said Tuesday that 285 medical school faculty and staff members will be offered comparable positions at Dartmouth-Hitchcock medical center, but about 30 will no longer have jobs as of June 30.
Officials say the goal is to better align the clinical, educational and research activities of the medical school and its clinical partner, and address a deficit that could exceed $30 million a year if left unchecked.
Geisel's interim dean Duane Compton says the changes will allow the school to improve physician training, medical education and research.
