EMPORIA, Va. (AP) — Police say one man was killed and another was seriously injured when they were hit by an Amtrak train in Virginia.
Emporia police Chief Ricky Pinksaw tells news outlets that the men were walking across the railroad crossing about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the southbound train hit the men.
Authorities say a 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 28-year-old man was flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. Police have not identified the men, pending the notification of relatives.
Pinksaw says witnesses reported that the railroad crossing arms were working properly at the time of the incident.
