PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say charges are pending against two men captured after a shooting that injured a police officer who tried to stop a carjacking in west Philadelphia.

Capt. James Clark of the homicide division said Officer James McCullough was shot once in the left leg Sunday night but was in stable condition Monday.

Police said the 24-year-old officer and his partner were flagged down by a woman who reported being carjacked at gunpoint by two men.

Both suspects fled on foot as officers approached, and as the officers pursued one suspect turned and shot McCullough in the leg.

Police said the 20-year-old suspect who hadn't fired was arrested nearby. Undercover narcotics officers spotted the 23-year-old shooting suspect at 1 p.m. Monday in west Philadelphia and arrested him, recovering a gun.
