QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Ecuador's president is back from an overseas trip and is getting briefed on relief efforts after a powerful earthquake rocked a coastal area of the South American nation. Rafael Correa was in Rome when the 7.8-magnitude quake struck Saturday night, causing heavy damage and killing at least 246 people. Correa had attended a conference at the Vatican.
NEW DELHI (AP) — Police say a bus carrying members of an opera troupe plunged into a gorge in an Indian forest, killing at least 25 people and leaving another 11 critically injured. Press Trust of India reports the bus was traveling Sunday evening in a hilly region of the state of Orissa, and was attempting a sharp turn when it fell 250 feet off the road.
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff appears to be in trouble. Legislators pushing to impeach her are approaching victory, with a wide margin more than half way through the voting in the Chamber of Deputies. If they win, the Senate will decide on whether to hold a trial. Rousseff is accused of using accounting tricks to hide deficits and shore up support for her embattled government.
LONDON (AP) — It appears that drones are becoming a serious problem around airports worldwide. Police in London say a British Airways flight from Geneva hit an object believed to be a drone while on approach to Heathrow Airport on Sunday. The plane landed safely. The Airbus A320 was carrying 132 passengers and five crew members. Police are investigating the incident.
HONOLULU (AP) - Officials say a female Sumatran tiger at the Honolulu Zoo has been euthanized at age 25. Djelita, who turned 25 on March 26, was euthanized Sunday after showing signs of decline. She was thought to be the longest-living Sumatran tiger in captivity.
