ELBERTA, Utah (AP) — Utah County Sheriff's officials say an Orem man was killed and another injured when their SUV rolled over on a steep mountainside.

Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon says the incident happened Saturday afternoon in the Chimney Rock Pass area, several miles north of Elberta.

According to deputies, 21-year-old Forrest James McCombs was driving the vehicle up a trail when it lost traction.

The SUV then slid sideways and rolled 200 yards down.

McCombs suffered injuries to his head and body.

Bystanders attempted to revive him.

He was later pronounced dead the scene.

Deputies say the SUV belonged to a passenger, 21-year-old Braden Kocherhans, of Orem.

Kocherhans suffered less serious injuries.

Cannon says open containers of alcohol were discovered inside the car.

The investigation remains ongoing.

McCombs' body will undergo an autopsy.
