AL-DHAFRA AIR BASE, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Defense Secretary Ash Carter says he will talk with his commanders in the coming days to identify additional ways the U.S. can intensify the fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria. He says the possibilities include more airstrikes, cyberattacks and American troops on the ground. Carter says the United States wants to do more in the fight and is "only limited by our own ingenuity" and ideas. He's visiting the United Arab Emirates.

MYTILENE, Greece (AP) — Pope Francis says his decision to bring three Syrian families to Italy was a "purely humanitarian" gesture and not a political act. Flying from Greece with the 12 refugees, Francis told reporters that the move was in keeping with the message of humanity that he wanted to send with his trip to the Greek island of Lesbos, a hotspot in Europe's migration crisis. Francis said the refugees had their documents in order and the Vatican will take full responsibility for them.

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis says he briefly greeted U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders this morning and the two shook hands. He describes the encounter as a sign of good manners, "nothing more." The pope says he's not getting mixed up in American politics. Francis says Sanders was in the lobby of the Vatican hotel where the pope lives as he left for a trip to Greece, and he decided to greet him because it was the polite thing to do.

CHICAGO (AP) — An Associated Press-GfK poll finds almost 8 in 10 Americans say they're dissatisfied or angry with the way the federal government is working. But about the same proportion say they're satisfied or enthusiastic about their personal lives. Most say they are happy with their friends and family, feel good about their finances and are more or less content at work.

DENVER (AP) — A spring snowstorm is expected to dump up to several feet of snow along the eastern foothills of Colorado and Wyoming. The National Weather Service says rain is changing to snow and temperatures are falling, which could bring heavy, wet snow over the next two days. Airlines at Denver International Airport have canceled about 840 flights today. Meanwhile, heavy rain on the Eastern Plains prompted flood warnings in eastern Colorado, but no severe damage has been reported.
