PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An eighth-grade girl has been charged with stabbing another eighth-grade girl with scissors at their Philadelphia elementary school.

A police spokesman tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that (http://bit.ly/1SfmMPj ) the 13-year-old girl was charged as a juvenile Wednesday with aggravated assault and related offenses.

District spokesman Fernando Gallard says the 14-year-old victim has been released from the hospital.

Gallard says the girls were fighting Wednesday morning in a hallway at the start of the school day when the 13-year-old grabbed the scissors and stabbed the 14-year-old in the upper chest and arm.

He says the victim is expected to return to school Monday and officials are meeting with her and her parents to develop a safety plan.

Gallard has said the two students "have a history."
