HOUSTON (AP) — Authorities in Houston say a deputy constable has been rushed to a hospital after a person with a gun approached him from behind and shot him six times. A law enforcement spokeswoman in Harris County says the deputy constable is expected to survive. She says he was at a convenience store in midtown Houston shortly after midnight, and was leaning into his patrol vehicle, talking to a reserve deputy trainee inside when the person approached him from behind and shot him six times, in the side and back.

But a senior government official says the law will prohibit non-Canadians, meaning Americans will not be able to travel to Canada to die. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the war on drugs has failed and that there should be a shift in global drug policy from emphasizing criminalization and punishment to health and human rights. The letter was signed by more than 1,000 people, including Warren Buffett, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former presidents of Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Switzerland. A U.N. special session on the topic is scheduled for April 19.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Oops. Donald Trump was showing off his knowledge of all things Pennsylvania during a Pittsburgh rally Wednesday night when he asked a baffling question about Penn State's famed football coach. Trump asked supporters, "How's Joe Paterno?" Paterno died in January 2012 just months after being dismissed following a child sex abuse scandal involving his assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Trump's spokesman says the Republican front-runner was asking about bringing back a Paterno statue that had been on campus.
