THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — A man who stabbed to death a former Dutch health minister and his own sister has been convicted of manslaughter in both slayings by judges who said he was suffering from paranoid psychosis at the time and living in a "parallel world" when he killed the women.
Judges at Rotterdam District Court on Wednesday ordered the suspect, identified only as Bart van U., to undergo treatment in a secure mental health unit.
Van U. told the court he killed former health minister Els Borst in 2014 on an "order from God" because she was responsible for legalizing euthanasia in the Netherlands.
Van U. was arrested last year on suspicion of killing his sister. During the investigation, he gave DNA samples that matched traces found at the scene of Borst's stabbing.
