WASHINGTON (AP) — As Donald Trump appears headed to a contested Republican convention, a new poll reveals his unpopularity -- not just in the nation as a whole, but in the Republican party. Seven out of ten people surveyed by the Associated Press and GfK say they have an unfavorable view of Trump. And that includes half of the Republican voters who were surveyed. Even in the South -- where Trump has won Republican primaries decisively -- close to 70 percent view him unfavorably.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump's bid for the White House is getting a boost from New York City's former mayor. Rudy Giuliani is planning to vote for Trump in the upcoming New York Republican primary. A Giuliani spokesman says the former mayor considers Trump "a friend," and always believed he would back Trump over his rival Ted Cruz.

CHICAGO (AP) — President Barack Obama says Senate Republicans are jeopardizing the "integrity of the judicial branch" by refusing to consider his nominee to the Supreme Court. He told law students in Chicago that if Republicans hold their blockade, the judicial system will soon be viewed as merely an extension of sharp partisanship politics. And Obama says, "Our democracy cannot afford that." Obama today returned to the school where he once taught constitutional law to make the case for his nominee, Merrick Garland. Republicans have said they won't consider Garland's nomination during an election year.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are ending broadly lower, led by declines in banks as interest rates move lower. Goldman Sachs sank 3 percent and JPMorgan Chase lost 2.5 percent, two of the biggest losses in the Dow. Crude oil prices turned lower after a big rally the day before. Benchmark U.S. crude gave up 1 percent in New York. The Dow gave up 174 points. The S&P lost 24. The Nasdaq fell 72 points. It was the biggest decline in the S&P in six weeks.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Former coal company chief Don Blankenship is appealing a case that resulted in a one-year prison sentence. He was sentenced yesterday to the maximum penalties of a year in prison and a $250,000 fine for conspiring to willfully violate mine safety standards at Upper Big Branch Mine. The southern West Virginia coal mine exploded in 2010, killing 29 men.
