SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State officials say it's too early for residents to water their lawns, and that doing so may actually cause damage to grass and plants.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Na5sXj ) that the Utah Division of Water Resources posted a statement on its Facebook saying that recent snow has already provided enough water for lawns and plants. The agency says sprinkler systems typically don't need to be turned on until late May or early June.
While watering the lawn this early may help it look more attractive, agency spokesman Joshua Palmer says it actually causes damage. He says too much water can affect the plant's root system.
