WASHINGTON (AP) — They've agreed to a debate date. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will appear in their next Democratic presidential debate on April 14 in the Brooklyn section of New York City. The New York primary is five days later. Clinton and Sanders have close ties to New York. Clinton was a New York senator and Sanders was raised in Brooklyn.
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Voters in Ferguson, Missouri, will vote Tuesday on whether to raise sales and property taxes. Mayor James Knowles III says passage of both taxes is crucial if Ferguson is to pay for implementation of a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department, which uncovered significant racial bias in the city's criminal justice system. An examination was done after the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is voting Tuesday on whether to require six weeks of fully paid leave for new parents — a move that would be a first for any jurisdiction. The state already allows workers to receive 55 percent of their pay for up to six weeks to bond with a new child. The money comes out of a state insurance program funded by workers. The proposal would require San Francisco employers with at least 20 employees to make up the rest.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A new report says global military spending rose in 2015 to nearly $1.7 trillion, the first increase in several years, driven by conflicts including the battle against the Islamic State group, the Saudi-led war in Yemen and fears about Iran. The study by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute also notes that the Chinese expansion in the South China Sea and Russia's annexation of Crimea and support of Ukrainian separatists also accounted for a 1 percent increase in spending, compared to 2014.
HOUSTON (AP) — Villanova is the new NCAA men's champion. Villanova beat North Carolina 77-74 Monday night, giving the team its first title since 1985.
