PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine's epidemiologist says it's still not too late to get a flu shot.

The calendar may say spring but the influenza season has not yet come to an end. The latest influenza surveillance report from late March from the Maine Center for Disease Control indicates influenza is widespread, with 36 new hospitalizations and four new outbreaks reported.

The report indicated the influenza has peaking over the past couple of weeks.

Dr. Siiri Bennett, state epidemiologist, said she still recommends a flu shot, even at this late juncture, and for people to take normal precautions like handwashing and staying home when sick to avoid catching or transmitting the flu.
