LOS ANGELES (AP) — A public school teacher is put on trial for responding to a student's question about Jesus by quoting the words of Jesus in class. Ministers who support her express alarm that their sermons might be subpoenaed.
It sounds like a news story, but the fictional case of faith under fire is from the film "God's Not Dead 2," which opens in theaters this weekend.
Actor Jesse Metcalfe says he took the role as the teacher's attorney because attacks on religious rights in an increasingly secular society are "a hot-button issue right now."
The movie trial features Christian apologists Lee Strobel and James Warner Wallace, as themselves, testifying that Jesus was a historical figure whose teachings needn't be purged from public schools.
Also appearing in the film are Pat Boone and the late Fred Thompson, in his last role.
Sound: Upcoming
