PROVO, Utah (August 1, 2008) -- Junior Dennis Pitta has been named to the 2008 John Mackey Award Watch List released by the Nassau Country Sports Commission on Thursday. Given annually to the nation's best collegiate tight end, the award is presented in honor of NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey.

A first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2007, Pitta led the Cougars in receptions with 59. He averaged 63 yards per game and led all MWC tight ends with five touchdowns on the season. Pitta is already an All-America and Rotary Lombardi Award candidate for the upcoming 2008 season.

The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, lists seven NFL players as alumni, including, Dallas Clark ('01) of the 2007 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts, two-time Super Bowl Champion Daniel Graham ('02) of the Denver Broncos and the 2007 Award recipient Fred Davis of the Washington Redskins.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and announced in mid-December.
