ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A partnership between the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, would be strengthened under a bill that has cleared the House of Delegates.
The House voted 92-44 on Wednesday for it. The measure has passed the Senate, though some changes made in the House will need to be approved to send the bill to Gov. Larry Hogan.
The bill creates one University of Maryland with two campuses, though each campus would still have two presidents.
Sen. Bill Ferguson, the bill sponsor, says it will further enhance collaboration between College Park, which is the state's flagship campus, and Baltimore, which has graduate school programs.
The measure aims to make permanent an agreement officials say has led to increased joint research funding and more joint faculty appointments.
