NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are climbing in early trading on Wall Street, building on yesterday's rally. Technology stocks are leading the way higher, while energy stocks rebound with the price of oil. Cruise line companies are rising after Carnival posted strong first-quarter results.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A private survey finds that U.S. companies added a solid 200,000 jobs in March, buoyed by strong gains in construction, retail and shipping. Payroll processor ADP says financial services firms also posted solid gains, while manufacturing employment barely rose. The government releases the official March employment report on Friday.
LONDON (AP) — A closely watched survey shows that economic confidence across the 19-country eurozone has fallen for the third month to a 13-month low. The European Union's executive arm says the deterioration in sentiment was fairly broad-based across countries, with Italy and France faring particularly badly. The March survey was done before last week's Brussels terror attacks.
TOKYO (AP) — Japanese regulators have approved the use of a giant refrigeration system at the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant to create an underground frozen barrier around its buildings to contain radioactive water. Tokyo Electric Power Co. says it plans to turn on the ice wall tomorrow, starting with the portion near the sea to prevent more contaminated water from escaping into the Pacific Ocean. The system will be started up in phases to allow close monitoring and adjustment.
NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball has reached a deal with Apple that gives iPad Pros to all teams this year along with a new scouting, analytics and video app called MLB Dugout. Each team's devices, which can be used in dugouts and bullpens, have been customized to use the club's proprietary statistical report and advance scouting videos along with MLB's Statcast system. A pilot program last year allowed iPad Air 2s with restrictions in dugouts during the final two weeks of the season and the postseason.
