CHARLESTON, West Virginia (AP) — One person is dead and another is injured after a small aircraft flipped over and caught fire Saturday afternoon while taking off at a West Virginia airport.

According to The Charleston Gazette-Mail (bit.ly/1RGPR8Z), the aircraft, a Cessna 172 Sky Hawk four-seat plane, was on runway 5 at Yeager Airport around 12:15 p.m. when the incident happened.

Airport spokesman Mike Plante said the fire was extinguished, and the two people on board were removed and transported to a hospital with "significant injuries." One person died around 3:20 p.m. The family of the deceased has been notified but Plante said the airport is not releasing the name.

Plante said inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
