WASHINGTON (AP) — Top U.S. defense officials are cautioning that the elimination of two top Islamic leaders won't "break the back" of the extremist group. A U.S. raid in Syria killed the group's financial minister along with two associates. In Iraq, a suicide bomber killed at least 29 people in a soccer stadium south of Baghdad.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Federal prosecutors in Belgium say they've confirmed that one of the suicide bombers at the Brussels airport was Najim Laachraoui (ehl-ah-SHRAH'-wee). Officials cite an official investigation and DNA analysis. The 24-year-old is also the suspected bomb maker whose DNA was found on a suicide vest and bomb used in the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — An official says an Army hospital near Fort Bliss in Texas has been put on lockdown after a witness reported seeing a man toting two rifles. A spokeswoman at William Beaumont Army Medical Center -- in El Paso -- says the facility has been on lockdown since noon. A caller reported seeing a man carrying two rifles and ammunition cans near the first floor courtyard.

OSHKOSH, Wisconsin (AP) — Ted Cruz is denying a tabloid report that he has had extramarital affairs. Cruz calls this week's story published by the National Enquirer "sleaze" and "slime" and blames what he calls Donald Trump's "henchmen." Trump issued a statement that denies any involvement. The only source quoted by name in the story was former Trump campaign adviser, Roger Stone.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Kansas Republican U.S. Senator Jerry Moran is facing a GOP firestorm for saying President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominee deserves a hearing. Obama nominated federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland for the seat that had been held by Antonin Scalia but Senate leaders say they won't consider any Obama nominees. Moran told a Kansas newspaper that he'd rather hear complaints about a wrong vote than for people to say he is not doing his job.
