SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man has pleaded guilty to driving drunk and hitting a cyclist who later died from his injuries.
Peter Vance Wilcox, of Syracuse, pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge of automobile homicide negligence by DUI in the death of 50-year-old Mitchell Bennett. His attorney says the charge will go from being a third-degree felony to a misdemeanor.
Police say Wilcox hit Bennett on Sept. 25, 2014 as the victim was riding by another cyclist.
Bennett suffered severe head, neck and back injuries. He died five days later at a hospital.
Documents say Wilcox left his car after the crash and told police the vehicle wasn't his.
