WASHINGTON (AP) — North Korea is being hit with a new round of sanctions in response to that country's "illicit" nuclear and ballistic missile tests earlier this year. An executive ordered signed by President Barack Obama today implements two sets of sanctions: those that unanimously cleared the U.N. Security Council and a separate round of U.S. sanctions enacted by Obama.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina sheriff is suspending five deputies for their actions at a Donald Trump rally. The Cumberland County sheriff launched an investigation after a video showed a white man in a cowboy hat hitting a black man being led from the arena by deputies on March 9. Officials say the deputies had their eyes on the stairs when the black man was hit.
ADDISON, Texas (AP) — An off-duty Texas police officer who fatally shot a 16-year-old and wounded another juvenile is being held on charges of murder and aggravated assault. Farmers Branch officer Ken Johnson was arrested today in suburban Dallas and booked into jail. Johnson's attorney has said that his client feared for his life during an altercation with the youths.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Washington area's Metro subway system says this week's system-wide shutdown demonstrates the need to re-invest in the system and find a steady source of support for it. The nation's second-busiest transit system subway was shut down for a system-wide safety inspection of its third-rail power cables after a series of electrical fires.
